Using Abalone Shell to Make Resin Pendants

I have some crushed abalone shell pieces and wondered how best to use them. I had a few spare open-backed bezels and thought they might look good with the abalone shell set in clear resin to catch the light. I wasn’t sure if they would be too oddly shaped to look good in a bezel but it was worth a try.

I used several different shapes of open-backed bezel. I used some clear resin and added the abalone shell pieces with the bezels stuck to some dam tape to prevent resin leaks.

The abalone shell catches the light beautifully which was really hard to photograph!

The abalone shell fragments fit well into the shallow bezel and catch the light on both sides.

I’m happy with my experiment, I love how they catch the light and think the abalone shell pieces work well in open-backed bezels.
